Description:

If you want to feel the sand between your toes on a balmy day, you don't have to head to the Hamptons. Manhattan has its own beach at the South Street Seaport. Yes, the sand at Water Taxi Beach is trucked in, but you can't beat the summer style chillin' at this downtown spot. They've got fake palm trees and gorgeous views of the East River and Brooklyn Bridge. The beachy bar gives you all the joys of the boardwalk with none of the splinters. You can play skee ball without getting harassed by shady carnies. You can bring your bucket of beer onto the sand without having to worry about a fine. You can even dance to music pumped over the sunny vista without having to bump and grind with the normal beachfront-bar crowd (aka the cast of The Jersey Shore). The only "situation" here is the ice-cold beer being dispensed into plastic glasses; the management promises a wide brew selection this season. Enjoy said brew with some of their summery grubthey've got concession stands setup with standards like oysters, hot dogs, and burgers. Chef Mark Davidoff also cooked up some new beach chow this year, so you can scarf a quesadilla or burrito as you loaf on the sand. Grab a picnic table and soak up some beers as you soak up the rays.
