Description:

This casual Lower East Side wine bar has something special on the menu: mead. Don't recognize it? Think back to all of those painful literature classes where you were forced to slog through "Beowulf." Mead is an ancient alcoholic beverage, and thankfully it goes down much more smoothly than the old English tome didit's essentially honey wine. If you want something a little more up to date (say, popularized sometime during the last millennium), a large selection of European wines is also available. Pair these with simple Mediterranean fare, like a salmon and arugula salad, mixed olives, and quiches. The spot is open for lunch, but don't get there to early. It may have flown in Grendel's day, but drinking mead in the middle of the day is currently frowned upon.
