Hot off the recent opening of Asian dessert bar Spot, pastry impresario Pichet Ong pulls a twofer with this new Nolita caf/bakerya collab with Lesly Bernard (Tillmans)which serves "everything from morning pastries to cookies to salads and savory tarts," Pichet says. Ah, those tarts: There are about nine of them (around $4.50 per), which go from sweet (brown butter and mulberry) to savory (curried chicken samosa with grapes and pine nuts), and showcase the chef's flair for whimsy. Pichet is also baking up a variety of pizzettas, croissants, cupcakes and cookies; the alfajor (a kind of dulce de leche cookie sandwich) sounds a real munchie fix. Village Tart is set to open in two phases, with the bakery menu debuting on Monday, Jan. 18. The full cafe menu hits about 10 days later, with an expanded selection of savory bites like pot pies, ceviche and lasagna. Eclectic!
