This underground lounge joins a list of spots like The Bunker and XIX in the too-cool-for-school category of New York nightlife. (Even if you wanted to go to school, you'd never be able to wake up after dancing to the wee hours of the morning at spots like this.) SGTs is located underneath the classy cocktail lounge Hotel Chantelle, and the sophisticated upstairs belies the gigantic space downstairs, which hides behind a false "exit" door and down a flight of stairs. The space itself is divey, but in a chic waythink hipsters drinking glasses of bubbly at the long bar, or while sitting in banquettes and swaying to the music. While the upstairs draws a cocktail drinking crowd during all hours of the evening, expect things to really heat up downstairs later on. Also, don't be surprised if you have to work your magic with a bouncer to obtain entry: These days, word gets out pretty darn quickly about "secret" bars like this.
