Description:

The name of this bar may evoke unhappy memories of a certain meteorological catastrophe, but the owners behind the spot are trying to return New Orleans style to its former 19th-century glory. Well, New Orleans via the East Village. The bar is air-conditioned, but the dcor evokes a 103-degree day in the bayou. Lush stools made for Sazerac sipping and the slatted wooden shutters are straight from a Tennessee Williams script. Mr. Williams would probably approve of all the boozing that's going on here: 12 taps dispense microbrews (some of which are from Louisiana), and a drink list heavy on the absinthe. A menu of classic Cajun bites will keep your stomach full, because who doesn't want to bite the head off some crawfish after their second Dark and Stormy? True fans of a good Southern Gothic will know not to rip their shirts off and start screaming "Stella" after too many cocktails. That was in a different part of The Big Easyduh.
