The swanky penthouse bar at the Empire Hotel just got some stiff competition. Above 6 is run by the Thompson Hotel peoplewho are behind other hot spots like A60 and Above Allen. While you might not be able to find a trendy downtown crowd at this sky-high joint, you'll find a similarly classy setting with some excellent views of Columbus Circle and Central Park. Like other rooftop bars around town, this lounge is all weatherthere is a retractable room roof that will keep you dry whatever is going on in the clouds. Luckily, that's the only thing that will stay drythe list of drinks like a champagne cocktail spiked with St. Germain will keep everything else wet as a whistle. The only downside? Compared to other roofdecks, this space is small. Go early or late, when the crowds will be away and you'll be able to call it intimate.
