A nice little gem of a neighborhood bar, Scratcher has become a home away from home for many locals. The name of the bar refers to a code Irish hobos used to use to mark safe havens from the law. You won't find any such ruffians here, but the place stills feels like something of a retreat from the average bar scene. Swing by when the sun's still out to sample the bar's famous Irish brunch (eggs, Irish bacon, beans, toast and pudding), while vegetarians can munch on the cinnamon-banana pancakes. On weekdays, the bar is pretty sedate, adding true neighborhood appeal, but like all things in the 'hood, it gets considerably packed on weekends.
