Naming restaurants after you two grandfathers, which owners Michael Hirtenstein and Mark Birnbaum have done here, is sorta a trend these days. If two is a trend, which it totally is. Franklin Becker (Sheridan Square, Capitale) has crafted a brasserie-style menu that features burgers, raw seafood and Birnbaums grandmas sweet-and-sour meatballs. The space, formerly 90s club icon Lotus, has been opened up into an airy, bi-level gastroclub. The Meatpacking District space can bump at night, but time will tell if Becker will once again have the golden touch with the critics.
