The Asian dining scene on the LES has really exploded over the past few years. Pretty soon noodle shops (Kampuchea, Noodle Bar, Slurp) will outnumber asymmetrical haircuts in this hipster haven. But until now, there was still a Vietnamese void waiting to be filled. Whether it's addictively crunchy banh mi sandwiches or veggie-packed pho noodle soup that turns you on, you'll be covered at An Choi. The Chinese crispy pork banh mi is a laudable melding of cultures, stuffed with Chinese-style roast pork belly and crispy skin, while the grilled portobello sandwich can be served with a vegan "pate" for the PETA crowd. The affordable sandwiches, combined with a selection of ph served in modern-industrial surroundings should keep the small dining room filled with scensters looking for a base to soak up a night's worth of cheap booze.
