Description:
When it comes to building buzz, this Lion is king. The hotly anticipated new venture from Waverly Inn chef John DeLucie (a partner here, along with Mark Amadei of Delicatessen, among others) has already inspired comparisons to, well, exclusive and elusive Waverly Innthat is, an elegantly appointed space where celebs are in abundance (pssssst, Demi's to you left, and Mary J.'s behind ya) and reservations are not. Here, it's all about going back to basics: The space was once called The Lion in the 1960s, when it was a nightspot that hosted the likes of Babs Streisand. DeLucie's menu is equally old school: a traditional American menu where a lobster bisque sits side-by-side with Berkshire pork chops, lamb porterhouse and roasted dover sole. Pastas (i.e. rabbit-ragout pappardelle) and a foie gras torchon with kumquat marmalade bring a global touch to the private-clubby/pubby space, comprising a tavern up front and a dining room at back. Ogle the walls when you're not ogling the food: Artwork by the likes of Warhol and Basquiat up the luxe factor, temporarily on loan from the Aaron Gallery.
