What sounds like a carb-counter's nightmare is actually a charming Parisian-inspired cafe and wine bar. Just far enough east from the crushed SoHo mobs to merit a sigh of relief, Oro (Spanish "gold" ) is a local 20-seat spot that's bejeweled in, you guessed it, a brassy goldfrom the countertop to the banquettes. Like a reversible raincoats it's good for all moodsby day you can slip in for a cup of Counter Culture coffee and baked-on-premises pastries (fruit tart, raisin danish, quiche) or linger longer at night for a glass of one of the ten mostly French handpicked wines or a pint of Purple Haze.
