The Little Owl is like your most magnetic friend: It's laid-back, dependable, inviting, and since everyone else loves it too, a bit hard to make plans with (we recommend making reservations a month ahead). When chef Joey Campanaro opened this inviting corner bistro in 2006, the city was on the precipice of a comfort-food revolution. Now, thanks to Campanaro and his compatriots across the city, meatballs, pork chops and roast chicken have replaced fussy French fare as the go-to for food snobs. Speaking of those meatballs, no Little Owl trip is complete without an order of meatball sliders: a pork, veal and beef combo that far exceeds the sum of its parts. Execution is the name of the game, as Campanaro and his team turn out consistently impressive dishes from the exposed kitchen. A simply prepared, thick-cut pork chop takes the mantel as the signature dish at dinner, while the bacon cheeseburgeravailable only at lunchis considered one the city's best.
