Josie's is proof that health-food restaurants needn't be dowdy. Its colorful banquettes and bubble-glass lamps are cheerily retro, and the clientele that fills the place is so convivial you begin to wonder what's in that mango-ginger lemonade. The house is serious about its mission, though. According to the menu, everything is certified organic. Even the water used to make the ice cubes comes with a pedigree: It is "triple filtered to remove chlorine, fluoride, and harmful bacteria." The menu offers the usual health-food dishes: veggie-burgers, pastas, salads, and so on. But there's a selection of free-range chicken dishes as well as fish and shellfish, and for incorrigible carnivores, there's organic meat. There are dairy-free pizzas from the brick oven and an organic sundae bar where you can build your own. If you want something livelier than that lemonade, order a cold beer or glass of wine.
