Chef-owner Stephanie Laurent has turned the old Buzina Pop space on East 73rd Street into Le Magnifique, where she mines the traditional French cuisine of her childhood in Monaco. The menu reflects her edict that quality ingredients "cooked right only need a drizzle of olive oil and sea salt." Entrees, like whole branzino in a sea salt crust, are served with a choice of sauce and side dish (the sauted baby artichokes are an early favorite), and Laurent plans to bring back the popular bossa nova brunch again soon. While the name may evoke a premature confidence, Le Magnifique is actually named for the 1973 film by the same namea childhood favorite of Laurent's from 1973, an auspicious coincidence, she points out, since the restaurant sits on 73rd Street.
