Recession be damned: Midtown is in the middle of a beef-centric bistro revolution. On the heels of the opening of L'Entrecote on Lex comes a new iteration of this Upper East Side bistro, serving lunch, dinner and a bar menu of affordable small plates. Anyone familiar with the typical bistro trappings will feel at home here: dark woods, dim lighting and a lounge festooned with chocolate brown leather seating complete the look. The menu sticks closely to the traditional as well, with escargot and frog's legs Provenale to whet the appetite, followed by a range of fish options and, true to it's carnivorous name, five different cuts of beef. Plenty of affordable options dot the wine list, as well as enough splurge-worthy bottles to satisfy serious wine buffs. Outback Steakhouse, directly across the street, should offer a nice social experiment: which beef lovers opt for a side of bloomin' onion, and which prefer pommes frites.
