We were mildly bummed when talented chef Angelo Sosa shuttered his decent Asian sandwich shop, Xie Xie, to seemingly focus on a booming career as a "Top Chef" quasi-villain and sorta-runner-up. He's now back doing what he does bestwe mean cooking, not sabotaging other "Top Chef"-testants!with this Asian-inspired comfort-food joint in Midtown. Here, he takes familiar dishes and Asian-izes them. That burger? It's served up bulgogi style and topped with cucumber kimchi. Those fries? They're sprinkled with a Japanese pepper blend called togarashi. And those fish tacos? They're laced with Thai chili. Apparently, there's one other thing that Sosa likes more than his Asian ingredients: the letter "z." The menu is divvied up into sections with names like salad'z, burger'z, taco'z and sweet'z.
