Description:
Rising rents forced Daljeet and hubby Sikender Malik to closer their Midtown Indian eatery Malika in 2008, but the duo are back in Manhattan with this sorta-Malika-sequel in Curry Hill. The space is smaller, but the menu is bigger, covering Northern and Southern Indian cuisine, along with the flavors of Kabul and Kandahar (where Daljeet's mother is from). Indian cuisine? Sure, we've got a handle on that (Tamba's menu skews traditional: naan, paneer, curry). But Kabul and Kandahar? Enlighten us now, will ya? "The dishes are lighter," Daljeet says. "Very light spice, usually marinated in skim-milk yogurt." The restaurant's name is a reference to the copper pots used in religious Hindu ceremonies, which are meant to signify good luck. Here's hoping luck's on their side as they try to crack Curry Hill's dense cabal of Indian restaurants.
