Description:
Morningside Heights cracks the Norse code with this sorta-kinda Norwegian-esque spot, whose chef-owner James Lenzi (Caf Des Artistes, Levana) is married to a Norwegian and named the place after their son (it's pronounced "HAW-kin"). Now for the "sorta-kinda" part: The place has a retail business that peddles Norwegian products like Gjetose (a kind of blended cheese), Kavli crisp bread and lingonberries, available in 5-kilo pails. But the menu itself, save for the occasional Norwegian special, is straightforward American with a focus on slow-cooked food: roasted pork, rotisserie chicken, grilled salmon. Also very American: "TV dinner" daily specialsserved on ceramic TV-dinner plateslike spaghetti and meatballs, meat loaf, and a Thanksgiving platter (turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie). It's served, natch, on Thursdays.
