When it comes to local brews, homegrown mini-chain Heartland Brewery's got the sudsy formula down pat. Now, it's hoping to translate that success into the burger biz with HB Burger, located at the old Spanky's BBQ space in Times Square. Its patty posse includes five basic versions (beef, turkey, veggie, buffalo, tuna), as well as souped-up specials like a taco turkey burger with salsa. Token recession bonanza: Nothing tops $9. "Everything on the menu is a la carte," says owner Jon Bloostein, "so we're not throwing in a side of sweet potato fries and justify selling it for $14.95. You can eat for 7 bucks or 27 bucks." To get those burgers right, Bloostein's flipping his patties on a swanky, 5-foot-long Vulcan griddle that allows for six different temperature settings. Here's something else that sounds right: HB's "hard shakes"booze-fueled milk bombs that include a "Strawberry Shot Cake" made with Coole Swan Irish cream, whiskey, and Hagen Dazs ice cream.
