Description:

The setup at the Hudson Hotel's revamped resto space may remind of your high-school cafeteria, but it does so without all of the bad stuff. Instead of grade-F meat heaped onto a bun by a woman in a hair net, you can put goodies like chef Brian Young's braised pork bellies onto your tray. The menu focuses on sustainable and organic grub sourced from local producers, much better than the mushy green beans of dubious origin you scarfed in 12th grade. The Hall still sports the communal seating made popular by its forbearer Cafeteria, but you don't have to worry about getting stuck with a loud-mouth jock or annoying dweeb at your table. Everyone here is well-heeled, so sitting with strangers is an opportunity to make friends (or "friends," wink wink). The design of the space aims to re-create an Ivy League mess hall. Now, we didn't go to Harvard, but we doubt that they have pitchers of cocktail being passed around the room like water. If they do, well, we should have studied harder.
