Description:
Roughly translated, fatta cuckoo means "to make crazy"which is the playful phrase that Leah Tinari's Italian grandmother's used to say whenever the family finished eating. Tinari has now named her new downtown Italian-American restaurant after it, andtrue to granny's famiglia spiritTinari's own family members are onboard the restaurant for all sorts of convivial craziness. Mom Janice (who owns Janice, A Bistro in North Jersey) is the exec chef, her bro and sis work the front of the house, and her hubby Martina carpenter on such projects as "Boardwalk Empire" and "Sex and the City"built the interiors. Family picture! In keeping with the homespun vibe, everything is homemade down to the mayonnaise, and the menu features the types of dishes that Tinari, a Bronx native, grew up with: three-meat meatballs (pork, veal, beef); veal dumplings with pine nuts and sauted escarole; Romaine salad with cucumber, red onion and black olives. Plans are in the works for a Sunday "red sauce night," as well as a Friday night fish fry featuring cold-cracked lobster and fried clam strips. They're cash only for now, but hope to start accepting credit cards in a few weeks.
