Owner Roy Ben-Jacob brought a retro nostalgia to East Harlemalong with diner-style char-broiled chuck burgerswith the original Joy Burger Bar. He's now spun off that '50s vibe into a second location, in the West Village. Like its uptown sibling, this one features colorful retro chairs and a signature wall signEnJoy" that sends up the restaurant's name. You'll also find the same bevy of mix-and-match burgers: Here, it's all about creating your own burger bliss. Patties come in three sizes (3, 5 and 8 ounces), and can be slathered with a variety of sauces, like mango chutney and spicy mayo. (The biggest patty goes for $6.25, but all sauces and most basic toppings are free.) New to this location: a few salads (steak, avocado), as well as a "Joy Dog"a wiener topped with diced tomatoes, sauted onions, shredded cheese, spicy mayo and crunchy chips. Mmmm, sounds like grubby joy to us!
