If Michael Bao Huynh and his string of pun-inflected sandwich shops aren't yet on your radar, this newest incarnation would like to make your acquaintance. Nary a month goes by without a new launch for the Bao empire, and this Gramercy spot specializes in a range of bold banh mi sandwiches while also paying homage to Bao's wife Thao's hometown dish of pho noodle soup. This small counter-service spot features the traditional pho tai (rare beef in an anise broth) as well as more familiar pho and vermicelli noodle soup varieties. While most other banh mi shops around town have relatively limited and predictable menus, Baoguette complements the soups and sandwiches with a quirky range of appetizers like a shrimp and jack fruit salad and spicy Vietnamese crepes.
