Description:
Filling a void in Midtown West, this authentic Turkish restaurant from a husband-and-wife team broadens the scope of many a Manhattanites concept of the cuisine (i.e. gyros and kebabs) with traditional, everyday dishes from the old country. Appetizers are served both hot (fried calfs liver, crispy calamari) and cold (stuffed grape leaves, spicy chopped eggplant and that good old fallback, hummus), and theres lots of lamb to be had in chops and chunks, served with rice pilaf and fresh veggies. Simply prepared whole char-grilled fishDorado, salmon, brook trout and sea bassare both flavorful and a steal at $18 to $21. And yes, theres even kebab, but instead of defaulting to the dner, try the thinly sliced Iskender kebab, a similar take served with garlic yogurt and tomato sauces on a pita.
