Since 2006, the fried fast-food fingers of McDonald's are no longer pulling the strings of this enormously successful "fast-casual" Mexican food chain, which now has over 50 spots in NYC and nearly 700 in the U.S., but it's still growing. Why is it so popular? It's focused menu has essentially stayed the same since inception in 1993, offering only giant burritos, burrito bowls (shell-less burritos for the carb-averse), tacos, rice, veggies and chunky guacamole. The ingredients are fresh and health(ier), relying on naturally raised family-farm pork, chicken and beef. And the design is actually niceno corny characters, annoying colors or stupid tie-inswith an urban-sophisticated scheme of blond wood, silver tubing and unoffending black-and-white photographs. And they serve margaritas.
