Description:
Art is a key focus at this Upper West Side Spanish spot from Madrid transplant Jesus Nez. An graffiti artist himself, he's tapped Chilean artist Dasik Fernandez to create stunning graffiti murals throughout the space, complete with matadors as well as an image of Jesus' girlfriend (ah, the perk of dating the chef!). There's lotsa art on the plate as well: Nez's avant garde cooking style reveals a molecular-gastronomy-ish spirit, with eye-popping dishes that turn convention on its head. For instance, there's an egg- souffl tortillawith fried potatoes and onionsthat's served in a martini glass, as well as an "edible Sangria" with layers of gelees, from white wine to fruit. And of course, there's a considerable selection of tapas, divvied up here into savory (meatballs with tomato cream, garlic shrimp) and sweet (molten-chocolate fritters, ice pudding with date foam).
