Description:

Domo arigato Mr. Robata. Thats what Florence Fabricant, Frank Bruni and co. will be singing to the chefs kneeling on platforms while cooking up sea salt-encrusted veggies and meats over an open fire at this Tokyo import in the New York Times Building. The first stateside location is all about open-kitchen cooking on the robata, or Japanese grill. Food is cooked before your eyes and served directly to you on long wooden paddles called heras, though if thats too kitschy for comfort, theres also a raw bar that offers a selection of sashimi and cold plates. If the sleek interiors have you seeing double, thats because its the work of the same design firm responsible for Kambi Ramen House and Ippudo.
