It's pretty convenient that the owner's name means "seaweed," especially because he decided to name his traditional Japanese restaurant after himself. The small eatery, taking over the former space of the unimpressive-except-for-its-name Hip Hop Chow, is on a strange East Village block the that's replaced crack heads and sex shops with low-budget Japanese izakayas and other chains. The cozy 28-seat space offers a lengthy sushi menu as well as cooked dishes like a tuna burger and chicken katsu.
