Description:
Austrian wunderkind Kurt Guttenbrunner knows a thing or two about setting his restaurants in luxe environs: His Village bistro Walls features artwork by Julian Schnabel, while his more casual Caf Sabarsky is inside the Neue Galerie. For Caf Kristall, he's all about the bling: It's located at the Swarovski store in Soho, which offers the perfect opportunity for ladies to oh-so-conspicuously ogle that studded bangle they bought while picking up a fork to dig into venison loin with chestnuts. Or the sptzle with shrimp and broccoli. Or the monkfish with fig and polenta. As you can tell, the chef sticks closely to his schnitzel-y roots, and the restaurant is open from breakfast through dinner. Regret spending too much moolah on that bling? Drown it out with a comprehensive list of German and Austrian wines, curated by Walls sommelier Leo Schneemann. (A liquor license is expected soon.)
