Description:
What's a wine tavern, you ask? Well, picture a wood-paneled room in the heart of Austria that pours (and pours, and pours) native-country vino instead of those giant steins of beer. This Alphabet City spot brings the wine bar/drink hall hybrid to thirsty bar-goers in New York, who will feel right at home amid the cool yellow lights and exposed wood paneling. If you're not in the mood for the selections on the European wine list, then you can enjoy a selection of brews from the continent (though you sadly can't drink from a giant stein). As far as food goes, expect a number of small, sharable options like pork belly with onions and horseradish and baby back ribs slathered in honey and beer. The folks here know their grubthey're also behind neighborhood restaurant Seasonal. Even if they were novices, you can't really go wrong with pork schnitzel, can you?
