The team behind shuttered French bistro Le Gamin are now trafficking in Cuban-Brazilian fare, having cut their teeth south of the border at Cafe Cubana. The 60-seat restaurant in the West Village boasts a festive atmosphere with a with a long bar where 12 tall congo drums double as stools to sip fruity mojitos and caipirinhas. Chef Oscar Sanata's menu sticks to the basics with signature dishes that include a porky Cubano sandwich, beefy ropa vieja and chicken Ipanemaa roasted fowl-and-passion fruit number that pays homage to Rio de Janeiro legendary beach.
