Description:
The recent culinary-school grad who helms this small East Village shop promises that you'll be able to gorge on the cuisine of long-lost empires. The menu skews Eastern Europeanby "empire" the chef apparently means the former Yugoslavia. Many of the recipes come from the owner's grandmother, who spent ample time in that region. The menu also contains plenty of Mediterranean-style flourishescheck out the pasta with butternut and cream, or go with the always-solid mozzarella with heirloom tomatoes and basil. The small space is decked out with warm, red-hued wallpaper and gives off a cozy vibe, perfect for killing a bottle of wine (or many bottles) from the far-off region while enjoying your dinner. Though the cuisine represents fallen regimes in far-off lands, the space feels like home. The husband-and-wife team who run the space are likely to be on hand, so if something seems exotic to you, don't hesitate to ask.
