Description:
Aiming to change the notion that going Japanese need be an upscale affair la Nobu, this casual cafeteria-style eatery heads in the polar opposite direction with a self-serve buffetby the pound (yes, like vintage clothing or textiles). The name means traditional Japanese cuisine, and theres plenty of it pre-packaged items to go, ranging from sushi and sashimi to fish-filled rice balls called omusubi. While its all cheap eats, economical best bets include the miso soup ($2.25) and cold bento boxes ($6) that change on a weekly basis. Teas, coffee and juices are sold up front at a caf bar and theres ample seating at tables towards the back sans service, although it goes without saying.
