Wechsler's owner, Andrew Wechsler, is a hefty German out of central castinga Dusseldorf native who surely knows his way around a wurst. Yearning for the traditional sausages of his native land, the East Village resident set up shop in a long, thin storefront where he's dishing out a rotating list of hearty sausages and beers. The centerpiece is a grilled, sliced currywursta variation of the traditional bratwurst with a slightly higher veal contentserved sliced, slathered with imported Dusseldorf curried ketchup and accompanied by crisp, thin fries. Other options range from bratwurst on a roll to more exotic fare like chicken sausage ground with apricot. The small, dark space is perfect for throwing back a few hard-to-find Deutsch brews like a dark amber Uerige, while reminiscing about your days as a hostel-hopping undergrad exploring the beer halls of Berlin.
