Description:
Pylos, which means clay pots, nearly hit you over the head with their name, as dozens of the terra cotta-colored containers hang from the ceiling in this slim and rustic East Village Greek restaurant. Just off Tompkins Square Park, the lively spot is designed with a breezy modernity, featuring island-white walls, exposed brick, a marble counter and pillow-backed seating. Diane Kochilas, "the world's foremost authority on Greek cuisine", has devised a home-cooked menu of hot and cold methezes like fried zucchini and eggplant rounds and red wine-braised octopus. She also leans more on meat than fish, with specialties like cretan-honey braised lamb shank, baby lamb chops and a prime New York cut sirloin with briam.
