Five generations ago, my children's great, great grandfather founded our company in Vilkemeer, Lithuania working as a sofer (religious scribe).

In 1905 he immigrated to New York's Lower East Side where his son-in-law, Joseph Levine, expanded the business to become the largest manufacturer of synagogue vestments. His three sons, Harold, Seymour and Melvin, further developed the firm into a complete department store of Jewish Books and Judaica with the world's largest selection.

After my uncles retired and my father, Seymour, made aliyah , J. Levine Books and Judaica moved to the heart of midtown Manhattan where we have earned the reputation as the Ultimate Judaica Store. Whether it's in The New York Times, AP articles, Wall Street Journal or CNN, you're likely to have heard of us.
