Description:

The Manhattan Ballroom Society was founded by Stephen Dane in 1997. The Society offers group classes and private instruction and runs social dances on Friday nights. We are committed to furthering the art of American social dance and to sharing its joy with a new generation of dancers.

Executive Director Stephen Dane grew up in a family of dancers. His grandmother, Sis Anagnostis, was an icon in the dance world, having taught for over 50 years, organizing several national competitions, and serving on the Boards of dance organizations. Steve helped teach classes at the dance studio in Yonkers for many years.

After Steve graduated from Lafeyette College as a McKelvy Scholar with a BA in Biology, he decided not to pursue medicine, but instead to follow his passion in dance. Steve is Past President of The New York Society of Teachers of Dancing, the oldest all-ballroom organization in the US, and currently serves on its Board of Directors. Steve has been a delegate to the National Dance Council of America and has taught numerous Master Classes for New York Society. Steve has also taught at Lincoln Centers Midsummer Night Swing, SUNY, Westchester Community College, the New York YWCA, the Yonkers Department of Parks and Recreation, and Macys Tap-o-Mania,

Steve has been invited to teach on cruise ships and at resorts throughout the US, and has held workshops for various organizations, including the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Lafayette College, Morristown Memorial Hospital, and the National Society of Arts and Letters (NSAL). Steve has been featured on Good Morning America (ABC), World News Now (ABC), Good Day New York (FOX), and on the TV show Come Dance With Me with international celebrity Belinda Lee, and served as a dance consultant for CoverGirl commercials.

Steve has helped thousands of people share in the joy of ballroom dancing, and would love to have you join in our family of dancers. Give it a try!
