About Sasha Gitin:

There are two questions that I am asked by my dear new clients on every shoot. One: how long have you been a photographer? And two: why did you choose food photography as your main area of expertise. So allow me to address these questions first:

How long have I been a photographer?

When I turned 7, my father presented me with a manual rangefinder camera. I loved it and I have been shooting since. I have completed a BFA degree in photography from Brooklyn College in 2003. After completing school, I felt a great need to learn about the world around me and traveled on self assigned photo assignments to Central and South Americas, the Middle East, South East Asia, Europe, most states in the U.S., Mexico and even parts of Canada. Traveling not only advanced my photography, but also exposed me to different cultures and amazing food cuisines. Upon my return, I assisted top NYC commercial photographers in diverse industries ranging from fashion to architecture and from lifestyle to food. Once I mastered the photography skill and the art of production, it was the time to start my own freelance business. My recent work appears in national magazines, advertising, packaging, numerous cookbooks and websites for businesses big and small. This brings me to the next question:

Why did I choose food photography as my specialty?

The answer in pretty simple: I love to eat, I love to cook and I love photography and all these things come to me naturally without much effort (especially eating). Upon smelling spices, I can instantly feel how they will blend together and in the same manner, I can look at my subjects and feel how they will translate into an image. My philosophy is to make food appear honest, luscious and with the objective to create images that will engage the taste buds of the spectator.

About me:

In my free time I enjoy brewing tea, cooking, spending time with my wife and kids (Juliette 3 and Sammy 3 month) hiking and kayaking upstate. I am currently based in Brooklyn, New York.
