Description:

Built in 1832, the Merchants House is New York Citys only family home preserved intact, inside and out, from the 19th century. Through public programs and exhibitions, restoration of its landmark building, and conservation of its original collections, the Museum educates the public about the domestic life of a wealthy merchant family, 1835-1865, when New York City transformed from a mercantile seaport into a thriving metropolis.

The red brick and white marble row house was home to merchant Seabury Tredwell and his family for almost 100 years and still retains the familys original possessions. It is a truly unique window through which to view the past.
