Description:
The New York Center of Photography and The Moving Image, also to be known as NY Center of Photography and The Moving Image, or simply NYCPMI is an emergent new museum with a mission that includes the exhibition, screening and collecting of important, unique works of contemporary photography, film and video art by established, mid-career, and emerging artists of outstanding talent from around the world.
NYCPMI will also conceive and present exhibitions drawing from its rapidly expanding permanent collection, which is comprised of an impressive blend of photographic, cinematic and video works of art, currently numbering more than 600 pieces dating from the second half of the 20th century, through the first decade of the 21st century. As part of its ambitious ongoing long-term acquisition program, NYCPMI is committed to adding up to 1,000 new works annually to its permanent collection.
The ultimate aim of our program is to assist, recognize and promote the most talented affiliated as well as independent artists working in the creative mediums of photography, film and video art. NYCPMI will fulfill it's mission through collaboration with professional galleries, other institutions, individuals and organizations worldwide.
NYCPMI will edit and publish it's own web magazine on contemporary photography, film and video within it's official website, www.nycpmi.org. The aforementioned site will be launched 4th March 2011 in conjunction with the inaugural opening of NYCPMI. Content will include news, reviews and feature articles on contemporary photography, film and video art, as well as profiles of personalities from those mediums.
The www.nycpmi.org magazine will also publish monthly listings of exhibitions and screenings, as well as other special events relevant to the NYC contemporary photography, film and video art community. Another important section of the NYCPMI web magazine will showcase previews of short films and videos, together with commentary and/or reviews, as well as interviews of the artists.
