Description:
Founded in Laguna Beach in 2001, Wendt Gallery has become one of the country's premiere galleries for the exhibition of Modern and Contemporary Art. Although it began with a focus on regional painting, the gallery quickly transformed itself into a more diversified and broad-ranged institution with the addition of several noted collections and a newfound focus on artists outside California.
Now in it's 10th year, the gallery continues to expand and diversify it's portfolio of Fine Art by introducing some of the most sought after artists throughout Southeast Asia.
At the start of 2010, Wendt Gallery expanded its reach both nationally and internationally with the opening of its newest location in New York City at the prestigious Fuller building, located at the corner of 57th Street and Madison Avenue. This 3,500 square foot showroom is situated in one of the most prestigious addresses in New York City, just blocks from the MOMA and Central Park.
Also in 2010, Wendt Gallerys international reach stretched to both Asia and Europe with the addition of new locations in both Singapore and Vienna, Austria.
In March of 2010, the New York gallery unveiled a monumental collection of major contemporary Indonesian art in an exhibition entitled My World, Your World, Our World, featuring works by a select group of artists who are well known throughout Asia. The exhibition validated the gallerys commitment to bringing this vibrant niche of the contemporary art landscape to a wider audience.
In the Fall of 2010, the gallery further expanded its focus on Southeast Asia with a group exhibition that showcases contemporary paintings and sculpture by some of the international art communitys most sought after artists.
Unity revisited Wendt Gallerys South East Asian program first presented in the exhibition My World, Your World, Our World. The exhibition represented a turning point for Indonesian contemporary art. Fine Art galleries in the worlds most influential cities (such as Taiwan, Milan, Beijing, and Singapore) have hosted exhibitions by these innovative, young artists and continue to support this growing market. Wendt Gallery is proud to have been able to present these artists to the New York audience for the first time.
In addition to the contemporary Southeast Asian Art Program, the gallery is active in the secondary market of historical artists, including several 19th and 20th century Southeast Asian art works. Pieces by Affandi, Cao Tali, and CL Dake, as well as paintings and sculpture by American and European modernists such as Fernando Botero and Pablo Picasso will be featured.
For 2011, the Gallery is mounting its first major International exhibition of the year at its New York location in the Month of March, focusing on award winning works by Indonesian artists. "Cultural Bridge", aims to introduce a sampling of the recognized and respected 2010 winners of the coveted Jakarta Art Award. Putu Wirantawan, Agung Suryanto, Imam Abdillah, Aditya Novali, Angga Sukma Permana and Farhan Siki are only a few of the innovative artists to be featured in this exhibition.
Future exhibitions for the Galleries will include exhibitions by Ugo Untoro, Ron Kent, Dede Supria, Karl Dempwolf and others.
