The Slipper Room is the brain child of performer and producer James Habacker. Opened in 1999, and located on New Yorks Lower East Side, the well appointed room contains a jewel box proscenium stage. Many a great talent has walked those humble boards.The Saturday night show, Mr. Choades Upstairs/Downstairs, is the longest running Burlesque show in New York City. Its particular style of host driven, upbeat entertainment combining striptease, vaudeville, satirical comedy, and novelty acts, all presented at break-neck speed, has become synonymous with New York burlesque. The clubs nurturing of emerging talent has played a major role in turning a scene comprised of a handful of downtown performance artists into a worldwide phenomenon. Over the years, the space, with its authentic, romantic atmosphere and history of supporting the arts, has attracted great performers from all around the world. The Slipper Room presents Burlesque/Variety most every night of the week, and has taken its touring show on the road in the US and Europe. Our desire is to keep joy alive in the theater.

This next year will see great changes for the Slipper Room. We will continue to present great entertainment every night as our new theater is constructed above the existing one story structure. This new Slipper Room will have all of the charm and atmosphere that our patrons have come to expect, but will have many improvements, such as double high ceilings which will allow for acrobats, aerialists, and good sight lines for all our audience. As well, Wednesday, Thursday, and early Friday, we will be featuring several new productions of our own brand of Ridiculous Theater, while still presenting our world famous Burlesque/Variety shows every weekend. This new space will also make it possible for us to have a Saturday Afternoon Childrens Theater program. We invite you to enjoy the shenanigans as we tear it down and build a new one.
